Falasarna where the crystal-clear waters meet the refreshing western winds.
Falasarna is a must-see of the island of Crete, known for its award-winning crystal-clear waters and refreshing western winds. The endless sandy beaches of Falasarna are the perfect location to swim and relax. Falasarna is located on the West coast of Crete and, is popular with day-trippers because of its stunning beaches and clear turquoise sea. Because the area is thriving with horticulture, if you look opposite Falassarna to the village of Platanos, you will see many greenhouses. You will also see that the two large beaches are separated by sand dunes. The southernmost beach (Pachia Ammos) is the longest and widest. Further south you will also find two beaches: a sandy beach with rocks on the bottom and the pebble beach near the small harbor.
There are bars and cafes on the beach where you can enjoy delicious snacks, water or coffee. Also in the evenings there are often organized beach parties.
You can also visit the remains of a fortified Hellenistic harbor which is now located inland due to the sudden uplift of Western Crete over 1500 years ago. The ancient city of Falasarna was already inhabited in the Minoan period and in the Archaic and Classical years, it was one of the most powerful naval cities of Crete.
TIPS
If it blows, choose to go to the northern coast. There the wind cuts because of the adjacent bay
Cost of renting a sunbed 2.5- 3€.
Set umbrella/sunbeds: 6€
